Empowering Ground advances education through structured, community-connected life-skills learning rooted in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, practical self-defence and guided learning.

Grounded in BJJ
One self-defence journey
Different paths. Shared purpose.
Our programs have at their core our Self-Defence Journey framework, guiding participants from awareness to safety through practical tools and learning experiences that develop physical, emotional and relational literacy while strengthening personal agency, confidence, belonging and connection.
Our first program, Her Pathway, is designed to support girls and young women across school, VET/TAFE and university pathways throughout Western and South-West Sydney. Alongside it, Her Ground brings this approach to women through practical, structured self-defence learning.
The ground we stand
Country. Community. Connection.

Community is more than geography. It is shaped by relationships, culture, belonging and responsibility. Born on Dharawal Country, Empowering Ground is committed to listening, learning and building respectful relationships with local communities and acknowledging Traditional Custodians.
We honour their continuing connection to Country, waters and community, and pay our respects to Elders past and present.
Our journey begins in 2026 with selected seminars, partnerships and community activities, ahead of the Her Pathway 2027 program launch.

Our 90 minutes Seminars
Her Ground
A practical self-defence seminar designed for women, by women, offering two learning modules adaptable to participants' experience and abilities. Delivered across community spaces, workplaces, clubs and partner venues, each seminar creates an accessible learning experience. No prior experience is required.
Female-led learning

Rooted in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu
Beyond grappling
In our Programs, beginner Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and practical self-defence are used only as educational delivery methods. Guided physical practice helps participants explore awareness, boundaries, communication, self-regulation, responsible decision-making and problem-solving under pressure; these activities are not independent purposes.
Awareness before reaction
Participants learn to notice distance, position and changing situations before choosing what to do.
Boundaries and communication
Physical practice is connected to voice, personal space, help-seeking and clear decision-making.
Self-regulation under pressure
Guided practice develops emotional regulation, composure and responsible choices. The emphasis is on capability, not fear or aggression.
Confidence through experience
Participants learn by trying, adapting, persisting and discovering that progress can follow challenge.
A growing region.
A clear need for capability.
The NSW Women’s Safety Commissioner has called attention to the urgent conversation around teenage sexual assault, including support for girls and young women, alongside respectful attitudes and healthy relationships for boys.
